On adventures inspired by Dr. Seuss, by blogger of the month Amanda Norwich

In the book "Oh the Places You'll Go",  that almost every high schooler gets upon their venture to college, Dr. Seuss (aka Theodor Geisel, the new namesake of Dartmouth Medical School) says "Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!"

Although there isn't always the same sentiment when you leave for medical school, it's more like "Congratulations! You're off to sit behind a desk and study for 20 hours a day!" the past few weeks have been more of the first Seussian reflection for me. Below are some collages from various trips over the last few months. Now that we're getting into finals (eek!) these are the memories I get to hold dear when the majority of what I'll see is my own reflection in the window next to my desk. Let's just call it pre-emptive burnout prevention. Enjoy!

Pic 1 - 1) View from the top of the longest trail on Snowmass mountain. 2) Family time after a rousing snowball fight (which I won as an aside) on the slopes. 3) Snowboard stick up with my banana gun. Unfortunately it was squashed in my jacket on the way home. Nobody was hurt in the process, but I did attract a few woodland creatures.

Pic 2 - 1) Gorgeous view of the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa from top to bottom. 2) Purim carnival in Beer sheva complete with a human statue of Rodin's The Thinker. He was even interactive, slightly shoving a youth that started poking him. 3) Near the ocean in Cesaria (קיסריה) where seashells make up the entire coastline.

Pic 3 - 1) No words needed, the place where gladiators fought to the death thousands of years ago. Today they strike -http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/07/gladiator-protest-colosseum-rome_n_1410192.html. 2) Trevi Fountain at night. 3) Most amazing butcher shop at Campo de' Fiori where I mistakenly bought too much (half a pound!) of salami which is unfortunately still in Rome. 4) Rare glimpse of a Swiss Guard on his way to work in the Vatican. That day we also got to peer briefly into the "Room of Tears" in the Sistine Chapel where a newly elected Pope dresses for the first time. 5) Vegetables in the outdoor market. Zucchini blossoms looked beautiful, tasted even better fried with cheese.

Thanks to Ariella and Cherec for the suggestion to use powerpoint, and instagram for making antique pictures cool again. - blogger of the month Amanda Norwich
